What papers do I need when I start a divorce case in Florida?

When you start a divorce case in Florida, you are expected by the courts to exchange documents with the other side. The concept is known as “mandatory financial disclosure.” The rules list an initial 16 different types of documents which both sides are supposed to exchange. Some of them will apply to your case and some will not. In general, the biggest document is a “financial affidavit” which you have to prepare, which lists your assets and your liabilities, your income and your expenses.

Thereafter you have to provide a whole myriad of other documents which typically exist, including items such as income tax returns plus attachments, pay stubs, credit card statements, account statements from brokerage accounts and bank accounts and the like, and a list of other items which you can logically imagine would be important if they exist in most of dissolution of marriage actions. That list of documents can be obtained on the first session with any attorney that you might see.
