Valrico (also known as the “valley of gold” as coined by William G. Tousey) is an affluent community situated in the center of Florida’s Hillsborough County and is home to nearly 36,000 residents, as of the 2010 census. The area became well known as a region where numerous cotton plantations could be found, though the building of the Florida Central and Peninsular Railroad in 1890 brought several new immigrants to the area which quickly expanded the industrial offerings of the area.
Since the late 19th century Valrico has continued to build its economy and population from being only a handful of individuals to 35,545 in 2010. Around half of the city’s households are families with at least one child. Many of these family units, however, have separated – leaving many grandparents questioning what rights they have, if any.
The Rights of Grandparents and Their Grandchildren
Studies have proven the importance of grandparents having regular interaction with their grandchildren, and at the Anton Legal Group we want to continue to encourage relationships between those who are often have great wisdom and patience to share with our youngest citizens.
Fortunately for grandparents, all 50 states recognize the importance of grandparent interaction and therefore have a statute which we will help you enforce. In some situations, however, a grandparent may need to receive a restrictive visitation statute, which means that a court order needs to be obtained for a grandparent to see his or her love done.
As a general rule, grandparents of children – regardless of the relationship of the parents – are able to visit whenever they would like in accordance to the parental visitation schedule. If anything, the courts support this type of visitation as it supports the healthy upbringing of a child.
What to Do If You Are Struggling to See Your Grandchildren
As a grandparent, it is your right to be able to see your grandchildren in almost any situation. If you are a grandparent who is facing parental resistance or alienation from either the mother or the father, we encourage you to contact our attorneys at the Anton Legal Group.
