Does my ex-husband have to continue to pay alimony if I am now living with another man?

Maybe. Historically, alimony only ended if the recipient spouse took up with another individual if they actually got married. About 7 or 8 years ago, the Florida statutes were changed to introduce the concept of a supportive relationship. That’s a romantic relationship wherein the party’s expenses go down. Their need for alimony goes down because of the supportive relationship. If a recipient spouse enters into a supportive relationship, and the statutes speaks about the factors that are considered in determining whether relationship is a supportive relationship, then alimony may be reduced or eliminated based upon whether or not that supportive relationship reduced the recipient’s need for alimony. It’s not an automatic like a lot of people believe. If the supportive relationship is with somebody who doesn’t help out much financially, it has the less of a bearing than a supportive relationship that pays all of your bills.
